Emerson Introduces Integrated Manifold for Respiratory Devices

The ASCO Series 588 Stationary Oxygen Concentrator Manifold for respiratory therapy devices helps simplify design while improving the device's energy efficiency and reliability.

Emerson's ASCO Series 58 Stationary Oxygen Concentrator Manifold provides the healthcare industry with an integrated manifold design which can help to simplify the design of respiratory therapy devices. The manifold is used to control the flow of air in these devices.

The ASCO Series 58 Oxygen Concentrator Manifold is a fully integrated component with a small, lightweight architecture which enables easy integration into the fluidic path of oxygen concentrators. 

Two robust general service valves are built into the manifold. This enables it to provide precise control of air flow between the oxygen concentrator's compressor and sieves. Emerson says the manifold can easily fasten into the fluidic path of oxygen concentrators and its barbed port design simplifies tube connections. 

By creating offering an integrated design which is easy to install, Emerson is helping medical equipment manufacturers reduce engineering and assembly time. The company explains that without an integrated manifold, manufacturers would otherwise need to mount valves individually into the fluidic path of oxygen concentrators and attach dedicated tubing to each orifice — which can take time. 

Enabling manufacturers to more quickly and easily integrate components helps them to get product into the market faster, which is particularly critical in the medical field. 

“Oxygen concentrators are essential to the health and well-being of patients with chronic respiratory disorders, so it is critical they are readily available for therapy. However, one of the most important aspects of these devices is an intelligently designed fluidic path, and that takes time,” said Thomas Beck, product marketing manager for analytical and medical at Emerson, in the company's press release announcing the launch of the manifold. “With the ASCO Series 588 Manifold, our fluidic path experts have designed a...solution that can save medical manufacturers time and lifetime costs. Manufacturers can quickly and simply install the integrated manifold by connecting just a few tubes.”

Reduced Energy Use and Extended Manifold Working Life

In addition to easing installation, the ASCO Series 58 manifold offers energy efficiency savings. Because the manifold is compact in size, overall respiratory device designs can be smaller as well which reduces energy use without negatively impacting performance. 

The manifold's valves have a low power demand, further benefiting energy use. As the valves are robustly designed, manufacturers can be assured of the manifold's reliability and long lifespan which can also help lengthen the life of the oxygen concentrator. 

Additional features of the Oxygen Concentrator Manifold include: 

  • ability to be used with air or inert gases
  • response time of -30 ms energize and -60 ms de-energize
  • standard voltages of 12V DC (+/- 10%)
  • power rating of 1.0W
