WABCO Holdings Inc., a global supplier of technologies and services for improving the safety, efficiency, and connectivity of commercial vehicles, announced its largest-ever contract in South Korea. Under the long-term agreement with Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, WABCO will supply its MAXX single-piston air disc brake (ADB) technology for series production on Hyundai’s new medium-duty trucks starting in August 2019.

WABCO officials say the MAXX ADBs are the lightest single-piston ADB range for commercial vehicles and offers several differentiating benefits for original equipment manufacturers. Its compact design offers a potential vehicle weight reduction of 100 kg (220 lb), as well as wheel ends that help improve fuel efficiency and permit higher transport payloads compared to conventional drum brakes. The MAXX ADBs also improve safety and efficiency due to shorter stopping distances and easier maintenance over conventional drum brakes. With up to 25% fewer parts, WABCO’s MAXX ADBs are also said to offer greater reliability, quicker serviceability, and expanded service intervals compared to other ADB brands.
Hyundai Motors will now become the first manufacturer to adopt ADB technology on all axles as standard equipment on medium-duty trucks in the South Korean market. WABCO officials also say the MAXX19 brake modules significantly reduce braking noise in the trucks.
