STLE Annual Meeting to Focus on Key Trends in Tribology and Lubrication Industry

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers' annual meeting will focus on a variety of market trends impacting the industry including vehicle electrification and biotribology.

The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) is set to host its 76th STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition May 15-19, 2022 in Orlando, Fla. This annual event provides the lubricant industry with opportunities to learn technical information, advance their professional development as well as partake in networking events with other lubricant professionals from around the world. 

Held entirely in person this year, the event will include a daily keynote and plenary talks as well as Q&A opportunities with academic and industry leaders. Over 400 technical presentations will be held over the course of the five-day event. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear application-based case studies, participate in 12 industry-specific education courses and listen to discussion panels on technical and market trends. There will also be commercial exhibits and student posters for further learning opportunities. 

Key topic areas important to tribological science for this year's event include: 

  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Track
  • Biotribology at the Nanoscale Joint Session
  • Tribology of Biomaterials Special Session
  • Tribochemistry Joint Session
  • 2D Materials + Superlubricity Joint Session
  • Special session on Artificial Intelligence in Tribology 

    As emissions reduction efforts and fuel efficiency improvements are important to many industries—and can be benefited through lubricants—the 2022 annual meeting will open with a keynote from Darryl Stolarczyk, director of vehicle planning, Body Systems Engineering and Materials Engineering for Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA). During his keynote, entitled "Nissan - Powertrain Evolution Toward Carbon Neutrality" Stolarczyk will explain how tribology is supporting Nissan Ambition 2030 which is a company initiative to create a cleaner and safer society through implementation of zero emissions, zero fatalities and zero inequality initiatives. 

    He will examine how tribology and lubrication developments have aided with the design of more efficient internal combustion engine powertrains. Stolarczyk's keynote will also examine how these developments will aid with creation of lower-cost electric vehicles to help achieve emissions reduction efforts taking place around the world. 

    In addition to all the technical sessions and presentations, there will be a commercial exhibition with over 100 booths highlighting new products and services for the lubrication industry.

Salek, CAE, STLE executive director. "This year’s event will provide members and non-members with the long-awaited opportunity to connect, network and collaborate with other lubricant professionals face-to-face."

    While the event will be held fully in person this year, STLE understands not everyone who may be interested is able to travel to the annual meeting. As such it will allow members and non-members to purchase a collection of digital versions of the technical presentations.
