Voice Your Views on the Future of Engineering Careers

Sept. 5, 2023
Power & Motion seeks input from the engineering community for its 2023 Salary & Career Survey.

As the fluid power industry evolves into a hybrid of hydraulics, pneumatics and electric motion control systems, so too is the engineering industry which is developing these technologies. How do engineers see the future of fluid power evolving? And what new technologies may come into play as the industry continues to evolve?

These are just some of the questions being posed to engineering professionals in the 2023 Salary & Career Survey presented by Power & Motion, Machine Design, Electronic Design, Microwaves & RF, Vision Systems Design, Laser Focus World and Military & Aerospace Electronics. Survey respondents will be asked for views on a variety of topics, including technology adoption, the impact of supply chain issues, and the continuing challenges associated with workforce shortages.

“The 2023 Salary & Career Survey is an industry benchmark, and one of the best ways we have to take the pulse of the engineering field,” said Bob Vavra, senior content director for Power & Motion. “Technology continues to impact near-term and long-term decisions in the fluid power industry. We’re already seeing changes in strategies employed by major manufacturers. This survey helps dig deeper into the industry to see how those changes are being felt at all levels of the fluid power community.”

Besides a comprehensive review of salaries, bonuses and other compensation for engineers, the 2023 Salary & Career Survey will take a look at some of the key issues facing the industry, including:

  • How work has changed in the post-pandemic era. Has work from home increased? Is there a greater reliance on collaborative tools and strategies?
  • From 5G and wireless to electronics and vision systems, which technologies are impacting the engineer? And what technologies are expected to be disruptive in the future?
  • Are engineers using artificial intelligence and machine learning as part of their work? Do they expect it to play a role in the future?
  • What issues keep engineers up at night?

You can begin taking the survey here. Survey responses will be collected through October 6. Results will be reported beginning in November.
