Emerson ASCO Series 209 Proportional Flow Control Valves Offer High Level of Precision

July 6, 2023
The Series 209 proportional flow control valves feature low hysteresis and good repeatability to enable a high level of precision for starting and stopping fluid flow.

The ASCO Series 209 proportional flow control valves from Emerson are designed to provide a high level of precision, pressure ratings, flow characteristics and power consumption in a compact design. With these capabilities, the valves enable users to precisely start and stop the flow of fluid in a wide range of devices.

Features of the Series 209 proportional flow control valves include:

  • low hysteresis of ≤ 5%
  • repeatability of ≤ 1%
  • internal design prevents metal-on-metal contact
  • meets global approvals including UL, UKCA and CE.

Valves Designed for Precision and Efficiency

Emerson's ASCO Series 209 valves provide the accuracy, response time and repeatability required of high-precision flow control applications such as medical equipment and hydrogen flow in fuel cells. Features of the valves which aid the high levels of precision they provide include their low hysteresis and high sensitivity of ≤ 0.2%.

The valves are capable of delivering fast response times of ≤ 15 msec. This combined with their low power consumption helps to reduce energy consumption, particularly beneficial for applications powered by batteries. Less energy draw enables an extended battery life as well as optimized system performance and efficiency states Emerson in its press release announcing the launch of the proportional flow control valves.

"Proportional valves are key components that can significantly impact, and even determine, equipment performance and efficiency," said Shivam Chauhan, commercial product marketing manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Emerson. "This is even more true for applications that require ultra-precise flow control. We designed ASCO Series 209 proportional valves with an unprecedented level of precision, flow and power consumption that enhances device designs."

When developing the valves, Emerson improved their internal design to prevent metal-on-metal contact which would otherwise cause clicking to occur. The company says the valves can operate at extremely low sound levels, benefitting their use in noise-sensitive applications.

The valves meet various global approvals, ensuring compliance with standards for safety and other performance aspects, including Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL), United Kingdom Conformity Assessed (UKCA) and European Conformity (CE).

Several options are available to tailor the flow control valves to specific customer and application requirements. As an example, the valves can be cleaned to enable use in critical applications such as oxygen therapy devices says Emerson. Different coil configurations are available as well to ease installation for customers.

Additionally, various elastomers are available to ensure compatibility with a range of media says Emerson which includes elastomers free of silicone capable of withstanding the presences of alcohol and sulfur as well as those approved by the United States Food and Drug Association (FDA) for food and beverage applications.
