Oriental Motor Electric Gripper Provides Human-Like Gripping Capabilities

Sept. 28, 2023
The EH Series 3-Finger Type electric gripper can gently grip irregular shaped objects similar to human fingertips.

The EH Series 3-Finger Type electric gripper from Oriental Motor USA is capable of holding complex shaped objects, such as spheres and cylinders, mimicking the dexterity of human fingertips.

Key features of the electric gripper include:

  • αSTEP AZ Series motor
  • ability to grip complex shapes
  • maximum gripping force of 50 N
  • compact and lightweight design.

Fine Tune Enables Delicate Grip

Oriental Motor's EH Series 3-Finger Type electric gripper is equipped with the company's αSTEP AZ Series Motor and is based on a rack-and-pinion mechanism. This design helps to provide a delicate grip similar to that of human fingertips, ensuring products being handled by the gripper are not damaged.

The grip force can be fine tuned in 1% operating current increments which enables the gripper to provide a gentle touch. With the 3-finger design, it is easier to grip spherical, cylindrical, deformable or other irregularly shaped objects.

A 2-Finger Type gripper is also available which offers similar performance but a maximum gripping force of 25 N.

Included on the gripper is a built-in, battery-free absolute sensor which allows for constant monitoring of motor position information. Because the sensor is built into the gripper, its design remains compact to aid with installation and space savings.

The compact and lightweight design of the 3-Finger Type electric gripper reduces the burden on each articulation, decreasing the overall size and cost of the robot onto which it is integrated.

Customers have the option to choose between an installation cover or a no installation cover type, providing flexibility for different applications. Closed loop control provides a high level of reliability for the gripper while its use of high-efficiency technology helps to reduce motor heat generation, leading to energy savings.
