Joe Wilson, former chairman and CEO of Muncie Power Products, recently passed away, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and commitment to a company that he served for more than 50 years.
Wilson began his career at Muncie Power Products in the summer of 1962 as a warehouse worker. In 1969, he moved on to become the new manager of the Chicago division. In 1975 he moved back to Muncie, Ind., to become vice president of sales and then executive vice president in 1980. By 1982, he assumed higher leadership as president and COO, and served within this position until he was elected chairman and CEO in 1997.
Under Wilson’s leadership, Muncie Power Products established a network of distribution centers, and purchased a manufacturing facility in Tulsa, Okla. It relocated corporate headquarters within Muncie and changed ownership through purchase by Interpump Group in Italy. During his leadership, Wilson credited most of his successes to the guidance and leadership of company founder, Hamer Shafer, noted current Chairman, CEO, and President Ray L. Chambers in a letter to Muncie Power staff.
Hydraulics & Pneumatics would like to extend its condolences to Joe Wilson’s family, and remembers the life of this leader in fluid power.
