Whether it's a stationary hydraulic system or a mobile one, diagnostic troubleshooting of a malfunction can be a tedious process, even if you have good equipment. The problem is, hydraulic systems usually have test points in multiple locations of a machine — if there are any at all. So unless you luck out in your first or second pressure or flow reading, it can take a lot of time and effort moving around a machine taking readings in an attempt to pinpoint the problem.

To overcome these headaches, Flo-tech, Racine, Wis., recently introduced its PFM6 Flo-check digital hydraulic test unit that makes all flow, pressure, and temperature measurements from a single point. The PFM6 has a full-range accuracy of ±1% with a quick-response turbine flow sensor and platinum thermometer. A large 3½-digit LCD provides readout of both flow and temperature. A load valve offers fingertip control of pressure to 6000 psig.

A similar instrument, the PFM6BD, has the same features, but provides in-line testing of servovalves, servo systems, and bi-directional motors.
